Your Pet's Nutrition

Many of us take vitamins daily as ‘nutritional insurance’ to supplement our diets and to ensure we receive the nutrients we need to protect us from the onset of illness or to treat specific conditions.

Your pet has its own need for good nutrition and these needs differ as it ages.

It may come as a surprise to know that in Australia there is currently no legislative control over what is added to pet food. As well, there are no legal requirements for pet food companies to list additives and preservatives in the labelling text.

In addition, ‘high temperatures used in processed pet food can destroy natural enzymes and proteins and diminish their nutritional value’ (Animal Protection Institute (API), so pet food alone is unlikely to give your pet what it needs.

Even if nutrients are added back after processing, the vitamins and minerals break down rapidly when exposed to light and air. For instance, it is difficult to know how much is left by the last portions in a bag of food.
Aside from ‘insurance’, Rufus & Coco pet vitamins also help supplement your pet’s needs throughout its life. For example:

- Puppies and kittens need extra support for their immune systems.
- Active dogs need extra support for energy.
- Ageing pets need added nutrients as their ability to absorb nutrients decreases with age.
- Pets eating a homemade diet or a diet high in table scraps, and ill or recovering pets, are unlikely to be getting the nutrients they require.

Making sure your pet has everything it needs will keep your companion healthier and happier, and possibly reduce your costs in the long run.
